Niek de Haan takes responsibility for BSO

Brussels, 1 September 2025: BDO has announced Niek de Haan will take responsibility for Business Services & Outsourcing (BSO), succeeding Albert Lopez, who has retired after more than 45 years of service with the firm.

Niek joined BDO The Netherlands in 1997, rising to Partner and Head of Tax and Legal. In addition to the BSO role, Niek was recently appointed Global Head of Tax, effective 1 July. This dual appointment reflects the strategic alignment between BSO and Tax – two service lines connected by shared priorities around operational excellence, cross-border delivery, and responsiveness to evolving client needs. With dedicated leadership in both areas, this combined role creates an opportunity to enhance collaboration and consistency across BDO’s global services.

Commenting on his appointment, Niek adds: “I’m honoured to take on this role and continue building on the strong foundation Albert has established. As client expectations evolve and our service lines become increasingly connected, I look forward to working with our BSO and Tax teams to deliver consistent, high-quality solutions across borders.”

Albert began his career with BDO in 1979 and has held several senior leadership roles, including Regional Managing Partner of Assurance Services and Board Member in the USA, Regional CEO of the Americas, and Global Head of BSO. Throughout his tenure, he played a pivotal role in expanding BSO’s reach and impact, helping establish it as a trusted global offering.

Albert comments: “Over the course of my career with BDO, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside talented teams across the Americas and around the world. Helping to shape our BSO offering into a trusted global service has been a professional highlight. I’m proud of what we’ve built together and confident that BSO will continue to evolve and deliver value under the leadership of Niek and the Global BSO Committee.”

Pat Kramer, BDO’s Chief Executive Officer said: "I would like to express my gratitude to Albert for his unwavering commitment to BDO and decades of dedication to growing and shaping our BSO service line. We are thrilled to appoint Niek as his successor and believe he is uniquely positioned to drive further collaborations between our BSO and Tax teams, while continuing to innovate and evolve the two entities individually. Niek’s depth of knowledge, expertise and experience will be invaluable in successfully navigating our business through a period of unprecedented pace of change globally."

Niek is based in The Netherlands and will report to Pat Kramer, Global CEO.
