EU agrees on unified method to calculate GHG emissions from transport services

The European Parliament and Council have reached a preliminary agreement on a standardised European Union (EU) methodology for calculating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from transport services.
While not mandatory, transport operators who choose to report their GHG emissions must use this common EU methodology, which prioritises primary data for accuracy.

The agreement must still receive formal approval from both the Council and Parliament. Once adopted, the new rules will generally come into effect four and a half years after they are officially published, with some exceptions.

More details are available in the press release.
